This guy, whom I've dubbed the Homeless Activist, seems to show up at a lot of demonstrations. His platform revolves around lodging rights and prison reform. He really doesn't like Chirac and Sarkozy.

Yesterday there was a freak thunderstorm in Paris. This is taken from under the awning of our boulangerie. The rain knocked out power on our street until 3:07 in the morning. I know because a light over the kitchen sink that's never worked before suddenly snapped on, waking me up.

Our metro stop was flooded.

Yesterday was the Fete de la Musique, a national event that brings thousands of bands and hundreds of thousands of people to the streets for a night of free music and wanton debauchery. These guys were rocking out just across the river from Notre Dame.

I'm back from Helsinki. Didn't have much time for making pictures since I was looking at cell phones most of the time, but I did get out and about briefly. When I arrived it was officially "Helsinki Day," and there was a free concert going on here in front of the cathedral.
