Crazy bread ready for consumption on our table.

Today was rainy and dreary until sunset, when I came up from the metro and saw this at Place de la Concorde. Everything was painted gold. On the left you can see the Egyptian obelisk, and in the distance the Eiffel tower.

Just when you think you're going to have to invest in a fisheye lens, someone kindly scatters a bunch of steel balls on the ground.

Today Steph and I went to the Place des Vosges. It's a square divided into four quadrants. In three of the four areas, the grass was still "au repos," or resting, for the winter, scheduled to start work in April. But it was such a nice day that the authorities called this single patch of grass into service early. It was crowded.

Steph and I wandered some of the glass-covered passages around Paris today. This was one of the classier ones. I didn't manage to capture the wonderfully subtle decrepitude of some of the other, more atmospheric areas - maybe next time.

Man in Notre Dame.

You often see guys doing crazy stuff on roller skates in Paris. They set up ramps like this by Notre Dame (where this was taken today) and the Eiffel Tower all the time... and nobody seems to mind. The tourists love it, and I love it. These here were the best, the most willing to risk grievous bodily harm in the name of defying gravity, I've ever seen.

Stone. Cold. Crazy.

Sunset today in the 16th. You can see the mini Statue of Liberty on left, in front of the bridge in the distance.

A friend of mine goes to this laundromat where there are mirrors on the walls bearing life-affirming phrases like this one. Which is weird enough, but they're even in English. I document for your pleasure.

A pair of socks. But what does it mean?

I know.

A panoramic I made of the ice rink in front of the Hotel du Ville (city hall) in January. In the background on the right is Notre Dame. The big sign on the left is pushing Paris for the 2012 Olympics.

When I was exploring the cemetery, this guy popped out of a tomb and chased me around for a while. Then I guess he got tired and sat down. Probably low blood sugar.
